The staff of Land Architects created
this organization with fellow Ann Arborites, John Burnett
and Andy McGowan. Partners for Places is one of Ann
Arbor's newest non-profit organizations devoted to building
community by improving the quality and vitality of public
spaces. As president, Andy McGowan has led the organization,
working tirelessly with the Ann Arbor community to improve
Liberty Plaza, which has historically been a neglected
space, centrally located in downtown Ann Arbor. As a
result, many positive steps have been taken to make
this space a more vital part of the community including:
Downtown
Development Authority
$200,000 allocated to Liberty Plaza for infrastructure
repairs and site ammenities.
Magic Carpet Mornings
A seven part series of stories, theater, and musical
performances for children sponsored by the Ann Arbor
Public Library.
Pilar’s Tamale Cart
Ann Arbor’s first Tamale vending cart operating
solely in Liberty Plaza.
Music in the Park
Musical performances organized by the Herb David Guitar
Studio.
Lunch in the Park
Weekly lunch outing in Liberty Plaza by Ann Arbor’s
mayor, John Hieftje. Join the mayor for lunch in the
park every Monday between 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m.

Ann Arbor Police Department
Police officers allocated to Liberty Plaza to patrol,
monitor, and combat criminal activity in the park. |
